What Does A Career Mean TO YOU- Susie Wilson

So, what is a career anyway? A career has been defined as “ the pattern of work related experiences that span the course of a persons life. A job is normally considered a particular work experience at any one point in time. However, when a job is part of a chosen career, it becomes a building block. A means of working “ on a purpose making a difference and achieving satisfaction and fulfilment. Example: Working on a purpose means working according to what you desire from the heart, your inner compass, and the work that is natural for you.

A career takes into account the longer-term view of where a particular job fits into an organized pattern. • Managing your own career, by taking into account where you are now, where you are heading how to get there! In addition, when you get there, how to make it work better, and know when and how to move on. • Your career can be fun, interesting, exciting, meaningful and fulfilling, as well as providing the means to earn a living. “ When people are unhappy in the other areas of life, they can still hold together a semi balance of happiness. But those unhappy in their work are unhappy everywhere” Shift from Employment to employability: The need to keep up date is creating an unprecedented hunger for learning and rein vention. People now need to acquire new skills and knowledge throughout their lives to remain employable. Is that all there is Failure and success are often judged externally. Things like fulfillment and despondency are internal measures, gauging how we feel about what we are doing or have done. You may feel the urge to seek more than just a pay cheque it is crucial to examine your inner pain and recognize that something can be done about it. Just burying it or pretending it will go away will not do yourself and the people around you any good in the long term.
Fulfillment comes from the urge to discover and life a sense of meaning, starting from answering such reflective and insightful questions as • Who am I? • Why am I here? • What do I have to offer the world? • What contribution can I make to others? • What will I leave behind after I am gone? Lets examine the four possible out comes in defining what success and fulfillment means to you. Some people are fulfilled, but are seen as failures because their jobs are not considered very worthy or rewarding in a monetary sense. Many are successful but despondent Think of it this way, if you are not happy with your work some else cops a big part of your dissatisfaction, expressed through anger, burnout, or poor relationships.
Even if you are living alone the cat cops it. Usually other areas of your life will suffer too. Stress claims accounted for $59.8 million of Victorian work cover claims in the 2000 financial year ( The age, 28 April 2001.There appears to be more and more evidence to suggest that job dis-satisfaction and mental health are strongly linked.

The changing world of work: Traditional notions of a job for life are now outdated. Other changes affecting the working population and job satisfaction levels are: Technology: The continual introduction of new technology means fewer and fewer people are required. In many cities office towers are gradually being converted to apartments a symbol of the fact that companies don’t need big towers with lots of people anymore. Call centre's have mushroomed across the nation creating white-collar versions of factory sweatshops; workers are being monitored as never before, while computers keep statistics of calls answered. Globalisation: global companies requiring executives to be available at all hours of the day via mobile and email have blurred the traditional separation of work and leisure time.
The so-called 24/7 workplace means many have arisen in a meeting held on the other side of the world .Living lives that follow others rules and selling their souls for material rewards that come with the job. A person who finds their future calling in life can be a happier person all round. That must lead to better relationships, higher self-esteem and ultimately a better world. This is about being fulfilled and successful. Think about what you want, and be fulfilled and successful!

Have a beautiful day today! Smiles- Susie
