  • Susie Wilson FACT FILE:

    *** INTOXICATED ON IMAGES ***

Fashion is nothing if not- ever changing. Colorful, unpredictable..... and magic.
Today the Couture collections are still shown in Paris, often extreme and extravagant, their role is to garner publicity and provide inspiration.

In a discipline where craftsmanship is key, couture's painstaking techniques and anachronisms have been continually passed on.

The métier survives today in a handful of fashion houses, where once there were hundreds, representing a symbolic commitment to ARTISTRY and HANDCRAFT, that captures in its complexity all the skill and fantasy of the OLD WORLD of Christian Dior and his contemporaries.

  • Susie Wilson **** INSIDE PARIS HAUTE COUTURE ***

"A Paris dress makes one feel capable of charming a pearl out of an Oyster"
wrote Jean Dawney, a model for Christian Dior.

“The rustle of silks and satins, the variegated perfumes carried thither by the clients, the murmuring voices of saleswomen and dressmakers like the droning bees and the sound of whispering from neighboring booths and smothered laughter".
    Paul Gallico

    RULE 1
    INVEST IN A WAIST-CINCHING JACKET
It's all about shape. The boxy jacket is strictly for weekends in jeans.
Think Hitchcock heroines in shapely cuts.

    RULE 2
    SHOW YOUR LEGS OFF
Mini or pencil? If you have slim hips, a straight mini can look great.
The rest of us should opt for a flattering A-line shape.
Minis look great with opaque tights, classic pumps and a slightly longer top.
Pencil skirts suit most shapes. The stretchy satin ones are very sexy, but also the least forgiving- strictly for the flat-tummied only.

Try the slightly flared pencil skirt for a flirty, feminine look. A shapely or belted jacket completes the look.

    RULE 3
    TOP IT ALL OFF
Try a sexy silk blouse in a scarf print for that subversive SECRETARY vibe.

    RULE 4
    PULL ON THE PANTS
Straight-leg trousers, with a little more fabric, are kinder to the figure, and easier to wear than wide-leg trousers.
The brilliance of a well-cut pair of trousers is that they will anchor a feminine top, complement a shapely jacket and a beautiful pair of heels.

    RULE 5
DO IT IN A DIVINE DRESS
The cocktail dress is a universal flatterer. A 1950s-style cinched waist creates a glamorous hourglass figure that suits all shapes. The 1960s shift- dress is a perennial. Sitting just above the knee, it is flattering to most legs.

And don’t forget colour. While we will never ditch the LITTLE BLACK DRESS any time soon, options in jewel colours will get pulses racing.

    RULE 6
STEP OUT IN A CLEVER COAT
Details like cropped sleeves, bold oversize buttons and dramatic collars give CLASSIC COATS an exciting twist this season.

    RULE 7
SLIP ON STILETTOS AND CARRY A CLASSIC BAG
If there's one thing we can say about the accessories it's “LADYLIKE"

BAGS are solid and dependable this season. Evening is traditionally the time to trot out in a black. Wear your diamonds and bling- bling..
STILETTOS SEXY.. The look will turn heads. Always think sexy...

    Enjoy

  • Susie Wilson Hello to all the Members of Vamp !!

SOME THING TO GET YOUR TEETH INTO... Enjoy !

    *** FASHION IN DRESS ***
Ladies are apt to take offence at their taste being severely criticised and dressmakers do not always find it the easiest possible task to steer clear between securing their own reputation as : artistes” of fashion and good taste, and avoiding giving offence to their patronesses. It is the public to blame.
There is nothing more capricious, more inexplicable, and more wayward, than fashion. It is true that taken as a whole, there is a certain conformity in the rules it prescribes. For instance, as the crinoline diminishes in a size and the area which petticoats cover in their circumference is lessened,, and the enormous plait of hair which has taken the place of the chignon, keeps in countenance the extraordinary length of ladies” trains.

If anyone cares to be amused she might investigate the fashions of by gone days. The transitions are wonderful, and do not appear to be guided by any rule.
In order to dress strictly according to fashion, and to comply with the ever-changing caprice, it is necessary to have a large and well-filled purse, and a wardrobe that is not too extensive, because as the fashion varies with almost every season, a large number of dresses involves either a great and needless waste of money, or the necessity of always being a little behind the fashion of the day.

One word more before I close this division of my subject. If persons are inclined to rail against fashion and denounce it, let them remember that there is a fashion in everything. In thought, in politics, in physic, in art, in architecture, in science, in speech, in language, and even in religion we find fashion to have a guiding and governing power.

How can we otherwise account for the change which has taken place in language, which is not the same that it was fifty years ago? There are phrases which have become obsolete; there are words which have been almost lost out of our vocabulary, which may and must frequently occur in sciences; but they are a result of those variations in custom and usage for which it is impossible to find any more expressive word than that of fashion.

Why then should not dress have its fashion also, and why should not those fashion change as time advances, and why should not fashion rule in this as in other things?

" May we never be to base as to envy the happiness of another"
    Smiles : )
